On: Simplicity
What if slowing down was the thing that finally moved you forward? An inside look at March’s 7-day journaling course.
Modern life is designed to complicate. Let’s start with the biggest distraction—our phones.
Earlier today, I came across this post that shockingly made me aware of the fact that “if you spend three hours a day on your phone, that adds up to ten years of your waking adult life.” A decade the limited time we have spent staring at other people’s lives, refreshing endless emails, instinctively reaching for a screen at the slightest tinge of discomfort. It’s more than unhealthy—it robs me of my own simplicity.
My phone addiction is just a symptom of something bigger: the constant pull toward more. More stimulation, more noise, more distractions to fill the empty spaces. More highs, while avoiding the lows.
I bring this up because I created the Simplicity course to disrupt this default setting—to bring awareness to the unconscious ways we clutter our lives, and to remind us that clarity isn’t found in more, but in less.

Simplicity is the choice to see what’s already here instead of fixating on what’s missing. And when we do, we realize that less is actually more. Less noise, more clarity. Fewer distractions, deeper presence. Letting go of what we don’t need creates space for what truly matters.
When we stop filling every corner of our lives—whether with possessions, expectations, or the endless chase for more—we make room for something deeper. And in that space, we find what was never missing at all. Happiness isn’t waiting somewhere in the distance—it’s in the quiet, ordinary moments we’ve been too distracted to fully live.
As you sit down with this course, I encourage you to embrace the energy of a new season—especially Spring. I designed Simplicity to be a kind of spring cleaning for your mind, your schedule, and your space—a chance to clear what’s weighing you down and make room for what truly matters.
Day 01 starts strong, challenging the hamster wheel you might not even realize you’re on. Day 03 and Day 06 are my favorites—both invite you to take action on what you write, and I highly encourage you to do so for the full experience. But more than anything, I urge you to take this course slow. Simplicity isn’t just about what you let go of—it’s about how you move through what remains. Can you slow down as you write? Not rush to finish, but notice that the act of taking your time is a practice in simplicity itself?
Like all Open Journal courses, this one is just seven days—but the intention is that the reflections you have, and the shifts you make, continue to evolve with you throughout the month.
That’s my greatest hope for the first month of the club—that we inspire each other by sharing our responses openly, allowing our insights to ripple into our daily lives in ways we never expected.
